Biography

Jimmie Walker is an American actor and comedian who started out in radio engineering and stand-up before landing the role that made him famous. Raised in the Bronx, he began performing comedy in 1969 and was discovered by a casting director for Good Times after appearing on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and the Jack Paar Show. He played J.J. Evans on the CBS comedy from 1974 to 1979, earning Golden Globe nominations in 1975 and 1976, and his character's catchphrase Dyn-o-mite became a fixture of the show and of his commercials. His film work includes Let's Do It Again (1975) with John Amos, The Concorde... Airport '79 (1979) and The Guyver (1991). He also starred in the short-lived series At Ease and Bustin' Loose, released a stand-up album, and published a memoir in 2012.

  1. Getting ready for a role

    Walker gives John Rich, a producer and director, credit for creating "Dyn-o-mite!" and says Rich wanted it said in every episode. Walker and executive producer Norman Lear both doubted the idea.
