Henry Ramer

Henry Ramer was a Canadian actor of radio, stage, television, and film. Born in Chernivtsi, then Romanian territory, he grew up in Montreal, Quebec, after his family moved there. He began acting as a teenager, on stage in The Cherry Orchard. Rejected by the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II, he turned to acting and joined CBC Radio as an announcer and radio actor. His first film appearance came in 1951 with The Butler's Night Off. In The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974) he played the supporting role of Jerry Dingleman, earning him a nomination for Best Film Actor at the ACTRA Awards in 1975. He was a regular in CBC Television drama anthologies in the 1950s and 1960s, and he did voice work in animation, commercials, and narration. He also handled French dubbing roles without being fluent in French, and he played Tiger Brown in a 1972 Stratford Festival production of The Threepenny Opera.
