Helen Reddy

Helen Reddy was an Australian-American singer and actress who began as a child vaudeville performer in Melbourne, where she was born into a show business family. After winning a 1966 talent contest on Bandstand, she moved to the United States. In the 1970s she placed 15 singles in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, with three number ones including I Am Woman, which won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and made her the first Australian to top the American singles chart. She won Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist at the 1974 American Music Awards and was the first Australian to host a weekly prime-time variety series on an American network. Her film credits included Airport 1975 (1974), which brought a Golden Globe nomination, Pete's Dragon (1977), Disorderlies (1987), and The Perfect Host (2010), plus a voice cameo in Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest (2007). She later appeared in musicals like Anything Goes and Blood Brothers.
