Behind the award
Griffin won the Best Actress prize at the 2005 BAFTA Cymru awards for playing Karen in Little White Lies, a film she also wrote, beating expected favorite Billie Piper.
Big break
Griffin became linked to Doctor Who after often standing in for actors who were unavailable at read-throughs for other episodes. That led to her being cast in "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel", and the script was rewritten so her character lived longer.
