Greg Louganis

Greg Louganis is an American diver who won Olympic gold on both springboard and platform at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Games, the only man to sweep the diving events at consecutive Olympics. Born in El Cajon, California, he began dance, acrobatics, and gymnastics classes at eighteen months, started diving at nine, and drew the attention of two-time Olympic champion Sammy Lee, who coached him. At sixteen he placed second in the tower event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, then won his first world title in that event two years later. He took two world championships in 1982 and two more in 1986. He later acted in Touch Me (1997) and Watercolors (2008), appeared in the television film Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story (1997), and performed Off-Broadway in Jeffrey and The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me. His autobiography Breaking the Surface was a bestseller, and he received the James E. Sullivan Award in 1984.
