Frederick Burton
Biography
Frederick Burton was an American actor whose career on screen spanned four decades; his film credits number more than 120 titles made between 1914 and 1944, mostly supporting roles and bit parts. He was born in Indiana in 1871 and grew up in Gosport, where a performance in a local Knights of Pythias benefit led him toward the stage. He went on to build a stage reputation for his portrayals of rural Americans, returning to the family farm in Gosport each summer to stay close to the land. In 1913 he appeared with Sydney Shields in the Cecil B. De Mille production Reckless Age, staged just before De Mille moved to filmmaking. Burton worked in films from 1914 to 1944 and died in 1957.
