Etsuko Ichihara

Etsuko Ichihara was a Japanese actress who worked in film, television and voice, and built a career of over one hundred credits after entering entertainment in 1957, when she also made her debut in Yukiguni and joined the Haiyuza theater troupe in Tokyo. She studied literature at Waseda University before that. She stayed with Haiyuza until 1971. From the 1970s, she lent her voice to the animated serial Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi, and she became a household name through the repeated Kaseifu Wa Mita series. For her performance in Black Rain (1989), she received the Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actress. She voiced a role in the pan-Asian hit Your Name. (2016), her biggest film, and her last film was Shabondama. She died in 2019.
