Ernest Truex
Biography
Ernest Truex was an American actor who worked in theater, film, and early television. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he took up acting as a small child and toured Missouri at age nine billed as The Child Wonder in Scenes from Shakespeare. He gained stage experience in Denver at the Elitch Theatre from 1903 to 1907, then made his Broadway debut in Wildfire in 1908 and starred in the 1915 musical Very Good Eddie. In 1926 he performed in London in The Fall Guy at the Apollo Theatre. His first film came in 1913, but he did not turn to movies steadily for another two decades, often playing timid milquetoast characters. His screen work included The Adventures of Marco Polo (1938), where he was comical assistant to Gary Cooper. On television he starred in The Truex Family in 1949, co-starred in Jamie from 1953 to 1954, and played elderly men in Justice, Mister Peepers, Hazel, and Father Knows Best.
