Emma Bolger
Biography
Emma Bolger is an Irish former child actress who was born in Dublin in 1996. She first gained notability at age six as Ariel in Jim Sheridan's autobiographical film In America (2002), playing the daughter of poor Irish immigrants in 1980s New York City. For that role she won a Young Artist Award and an Iowa Film Critics Award, and received nominations from the Chicago Film Critics, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, and the Screen Actors Guild, among others. She later starred as the title character in Heidi (2005), based on the classic children's story, with Max Von Sydow and Diana Rigg; reviews described her as engaging and spirited. She also appeared in the crime comedy Intermission (2003). In 2008, The Irish Times reported that she had given up acting to focus on academic pursuits.
