Eleanor David

Eleanor David is a British actress whose work has taken her across the UK, the US and New Zealand. She drew positive reviews for her leading performance in the biopic Sylvia, playing the pioneering educator Sylvia Ashton-Warner, a role she traveled to New Zealand to take on in 1984. Her film work includes Bill Forsyth's BAFTA-nominated comedy Comfort and Joy (1984), Mike Leigh's Topsy-Turvy (1999), and Alan Parker's Pink Floyd The Wall (1982), in which she played the main character's wife. On television she has appeared in the mini-series Paradise Postponed and The Borgias, and later in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking (2004). Janet Maslin of The New York Times judged her Sylvia performance intelligent and compassionate, and the critic Andrew Sarris named the film one of the ten best of 1985.
