Edmund Lowe

Edmund Lowe was an American actor who came to the screen through vaudeville and silent movies and built a career of more than 100 films after starting in 1915. He attended Santa Clara College before choosing acting. He became a popular silent leading man and was best remembered as Sergeant Harry Quirt in Raoul Walsh's What Price Glory? (1926), opposite Victor McLaglen as Captain Jimmy Flagg. The pair's success carried into talking pictures, where Lowe and McLaglen starred in a musical remake and two sequels. Lowe reprised Quirt for a radio program in the early 1940s. He freelanced as a leading man in the 1930s and played a doctor in Dinner at Eight (1933). As romantic roles faded, he moved to supporting parts in larger films and leads in smaller ones, including Dillinger (1945), a crime thriller that became a surprise hit. He starred in 38 episodes of Front Page Detective and appeared as a villain on Maverick.
