Dick Wesson
Biography
Dick Wesson was an American character actor, comedian and comedy writer who started out in a comedy and singing act with his brother Gene, billed as The Wesson Brothers. Born in Boston, he became a television series regular in 1949 alongside Jim Backus in Hollywood House. He made his film debut in Destination Moon (1950) and signed with Warner Bros., staying until 1953; his films there included Calamity Jane (1953), in which he played the female impersonator Francis Fryer, his best known role. He specialized in comic relief, often as an infantry soldier or a western character, as in Force of Arms and The Man Behind the Gun (1953). On television he was Jackie Cooper's sidekick Rollo on The People's Choice and Frank Crenshaw on The Bob Cummings Show, and he later wrote for The Bob Cummings Show and The Beverly Hillbillies, produce My Sister Eileen and Petticoat Junction, and direct episodes of both. He died in 1996.
