David Yip

David Yip is a British actor and playwright. Raised in Liverpool, he trained at East 15 Acting School and completed his studies in 1973. He started in theater and made his television debut in 1975. His breakout role came as the title detective in the BBC series The Chinese Detective from 1981 to 1982, where he became the first East Asian actor to headline a British TV show. Steven Spielberg cast him in his feature debut, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), as Wu Han. He later played CIA agent Chuck Lee in A View to a Kill (1985) and took a lead role in Ping Pong (1986). Other film appearances include a small part in Entrapment (1999). He wrote the play Gold Mountain and also acted in it. On television, he appeared in Brookside, Spirit Warriors, and Fortitude. He is also known for voice work and received honorary doctorates in 2022.
