Behind the camera
In 1990, Byrne and Yale Evelev started Luaka Bop, a record label focusing on world music. Initially intended for Latin American compilations, it later expanded to include artists from Cuba, Africa, and the Far East.
Behind the camera
For a piece titled Playing the Building, Byrne and his production team wired a pipe organ electronically to the Battery Maritime Building, a Manhattan ferry terminal that was 99 years old, so the structure itself could be played.
