Dale Ishimoto

Biography

Dale Ishimoto was an American actor of Japanese descent. Born in Delta, Colorado, and raised in Guadalupe, California, he started out on stage at the Altadena Playhouse and became a recognizable face in villainous Japanese soldier roles. Among his films were Beach Red (1967), in which he played a Japanese army captain, MASH (1970), as a Korean doctor, Superchick (1973), as a karate instructor, and Midway (1976), as Vice Admiral Boshiro Hosogaya. He turned up in an episode of Wanted: Dead or Alive, and in the late 1990s he drew notice for Nissan commercials in which he played the company's former president, Yutaka Katayama. He helped found the Canyon Theatre Guild in Santa Clarita, taught acting at the Pasadena Playhouse, and stepped back from acting in 1998.
