Charlie Heaton
Biography
Charlie Heaton is an English actor and musician who grew up in Bridlington and moved to London as a teenager, drumming in rock bands such as Comanechi and Half Loon before turning to screen work without formal training. He took work as an extra and won guest parts in British television dramas including DCI Banks, Vera and Casualty, and in 2015 he was cast in the part that made his name, Jonathan Byers in the Netflix series Stranger Things, which ran from 2016 to 2025. His films include Shut In (2016), As You Are (2016), Marrowbone, The New Mutants (2020), No Future (2021) and The Souvenir Part II (2021), and he later starred in Billy Knight (2025). In 2018 the BBC announced he would play Joseph Merrick, though that drama was never made, and in 2024 he drummed on a track for the band Luxury Apartments.

A change of course
Heaton drummed in several bands before he became the drummer for the noise rock group Comanechi. While he was with them, the band put out an album in 2013, played shows in support of The Gossip and spent 18 months on tour.
First role
Heaton's first feature film role was in the thriller Shut In. It was filmed just before he was cast in Stranger Things, but it came out after the show premiered.
Big break
In 2015, Heaton landed guest parts on several British television dramas, including the ITV crime series DCI Banks and Vera and BBC One's Casualty. That same year, he won his breakthrough part as Jonathan Byers in Netflix's Stranger Things.
Beyond film
Heaton played drums on the song "Room Next Door" for the self-titled album by punk rock band Luxury Apartments, which came out in 2024.
