Brenda Joyce
Biography
Brenda Joyce was an American film actress who worked as a model before moving into pictures in the late 1930s. Born Betty Graftina Leabo in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, she grew up in California and attended college there before posing for magazines. Her early screen credits included a prominent supporting part in the major production The Rains Came (1939), with George Brent and Myrna Loy, and a role in Little Tokyo, U.S.A. (1942). She was best known as the seventh actress cast as Jane in the Tarzan films, taking over from Maureen O'Sullivan and playing the part five times between 1945 and 1949, the first four alongside Johnny Weissmuller and the last, in Tarzan's Magic Fountain (1949), with Lex Barker. She retired in 1949.
