Brandon De Wilde
Biography
Brandon De Wilde was an American actor who built a stage and screen career beginning in childhood. Born in Brooklyn to a theatrical family, he made his Broadway debut at seven in The Member of the Wedding, won a Donaldson Award, and earned a Golden Globe for the film adaptation. He played Joey Starrett in Shane (1953), receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and headed the ABC sitcom Jamie. Later film work included Night Passage (1957), The Missouri Traveler (1958), All Fall Down (1962), Hud (1963) opposite Paul Newman, Those Calloways (1964), and In Harm's Way (1965). After 1965, much of his work shifted to television guest roles; his last films were the 1971 Western The Deserter and the action comedy Wild in the Sky (1972). He died in 1972.

DeWilde was seven when he first took the Broadway stage in The Member of the Wedding, a play adapted from Carson McCullers's novel. He became the first child actor to receive the Donaldson Award.
