Biography

Audrey Christie was an American actress, singer and dancer who started out as a teenager in vaudeville. Born in Chicago, she attended a fine arts school there but left at 15 after finding success with the Six Chicago Steppers. She began as a singer and dancer, then took dramatic roles as well. On Broadway she appeared in Follow Thru, Sailor, Beware!, The Women, I Married an Angel and Without Love, and later had a lead in The Desk Set. Her performance in The Voice of the Turtle brought her a Donaldson Award. Her films included Mame (1974), Carousel (1956), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964), Deadline U.S.A. (1952), Splendor in the Grass (1961), Frankie and Johnny (1966), Keeper of the Flame (1943), The Ballad of Josie (1967) and Harper Valley P.T.A. (1978). On television she acted in episodes of Studio One and Fair Exchange and had a recurring role on The Cara Williams Show.
