Anders Randolf

Anders Randolf was a Danish-born actor who appeared in American films between 1913 and 1930. Born in Viborg, Denmark, he attended a military academy and became a skilled swordsman before emigrating to the United States in 1893. A lifelong passion for the theater took him to a troupe in Columbus, Ohio and then to touring companies, and he co-starred in a production of As You Like It. In 1914 he started making short films with Vitagraph Studios, and reviewers praised his work in his first feature, The Wheels of Justice (1915). Later, as a freelance performer, he took top supporting parts for Cosmopolitan, appearing with Marion Davies in The Cinema Murder (1919) and Buried Treasure (1921), and he was often cast as a villain. He was Mary Pickford's father in Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall (1924) and the pirate captain in The Black Pirate (1926), a performance a New York Times critic applauded.
