1. First role

   Debnam-Carey was ten years old when she first appeared on film, in 2003. That debut role was in Martha's New Coat, a short-feature film by Rachel Ward that won an award.

2. Big break

   Debnam-Carey's breakout role was Lexa on The 100, a guest part in the second season that became a fan favorite.

3. A role that slipped away

   Debnam-Carey went after the part of a young Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries, a CW series. The network put her on its shortlist and had her test, then turned her down because she seemed too young for the role.

4. Early training

   Debnam-Carey started acting when she was eight and also spent ten years studying classical percussion. At Newtown High School of the Performing Arts she played percussion.

5. Beyond film

   In 2010, Debnam-Carey worked with the Berlin Philharmonic and about 40 other musicians. Over a two-week program they wrote a piece together and played it at the Sydney Opera House.
