Alfred Burke
Biography
Alfred Burke was an English actor best known for playing the private investigator Frank Marker in the television drama Public Eye, which aired from 1965 to 1975. Born in Peckham, southeast London, he won a RADA scholarship in 1937 and began his career at the Barn Theatre in Shere, Surrey. After working with the Young and Old Vic, he made his London debut in 1950 and spent three years with Birmingham Repertory Theatre. His films included The Angry Silence (1960), Touch and Go, Interpol, Yangtse Incident and Buccaneers, and he acted in televised plays such as The Tip and Treasure Island. After Public Eye he played roles ranging from Long John Silver to Pope John Paul II's father, and appeared in Minder, Home to Roost, Enemy at the Door, Bergerac and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the National Theatre.

Early training
Burke joined a local amateur dramatics group, then moved to Morley College and won a RADA scholarship in 1937. Two years afterward, his acting career began at the Barn Theatre in Shere, Surrey.
