A role that slipped away
In 1996, producer Stephen Nemeth brought in Cox to adapt Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as writer and director. Creative disagreements with Nemeth and Thompson led to Cox being sacked, and Terry Gilliam took over the film.
Beyond film
Starting in May 1988, Cox hosted the BBC series Moviedrome, a weekly showcase for cult films. He introduced each film himself, and by the time he left in September 1994 he had introduced 141 films.
Early training
Cox won a Fulbright Scholarship, which let him study at the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned an MFA from the School of Theater, Film and Television there.
Behind the camera
For his next micro-feature, Cox wrote another attempt at a Repo follow-up, but it had no returning characters, which kept Universal's rights to the original intact. Repo Chick was shot entirely against a green screen.
Behind the camera
Cox's 2013 film Bill, the Galactic Hero, adapted from a Harry Harrison science fiction book, was funded by a Kickstarter campaign that raised $114,957 against a $100,000 goal.
A role that slipped away
Cox made an attempt to direct an American Godzilla film, and he submitted his outline to TriStar Pictures, but the submission was unsuccessful.
