Plot summary
Dog is a Labrador who lives by himself in Manhattan in 1985. A television advertisement leads him to order a robot companion; he assembles it when it arrives and takes it out to explore the city. The two rollerskate in Central Park and become inseparable over the summer. At the season's end Dog brings Robot to the beach, where they play in the water for a long day and fall asleep on the sand. They wake to find the other visitors gone and the water has rusted Robot so badly it cannot move. Dog goes home for the night and returns the next morning with repair tools, only to find the beach shut until the first of June the following year, so he decides to wait.

- Pablo Berger initially wanted Cartoon Saloon to animate Robot Dreams, but abandoned the plan in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He then helped set up animation studios across Spain so the film could still be made.
- In 2008, Sara Varon was approached by an unspecified animation studio to adapt her graphic novel Robot Dreams as a fully computer-animated film. The project never materialized.
