Plot summary
In a dusty workshop, an elderly bear puts the last touches to a mechanical diorama that recounts his life. A photograph of his wife and his son is proof that he once had a family, and the diorama holds figures of the two of them. He looks into an empty child's room and drinks his tea alone. Then he takes the diorama out to the village square, sets it up, and rings a bell to call an audience. A bear child notices the display, gets a coin from his father, and runs over for a look at what the old bear has made.
