Plot summary
At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Sohn Kee-chung won the marathon and set a world record. When Japan's anthem played at the medal ceremony, he used a potted plant to hide the Japanese flag on his uniform. Overnight he became a hero to Koreans, but Japanese colonial rule kept him from racing again. In Seoul in 1947, after liberation, Suh Yun-bok is drawing attention as a second Sohn Kee-chung. The champion approaches the younger athlete and proposes they enter the Boston Marathon, where Sohn hopes to reclaim the glory Berlin cost him and to compete under the Korean flag. The runners cannot afford proper shoes.
