Plot summary
The account begins in 2010 with the WikiLeaks founder. Two years later, Swedish authorities seek his extradition from the United Kingdom, and he alleges that a transfer there would end in extradition to the United States. A WikiLeaks staffer is with him in an early scene as he calls the U.S. State Department and asks officials to step up their security procedures. He is anxious about Chelsea Manning's fate and plans ways to avoid capture by the United States. Recorded scenes also show his asylum claim and the disguising of himself as he sneaks into the Embassy of Ecuador.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Julian Assange's lawyers contacted Laura Poitras before the Cannes screening, and Assange sent her a text saying the film was "a threat to his freedom"; Poitras said this led her to refocus on the accusations against him and to add the Jacob Appelbaum story to the film.
- Assange frantically tried to get Poitras to remove scenes in which he calls the sexual assault allegations against him a "radical feminist conspiracy" by lesbians, saying the women would be "reviled for ever by a large segment of the world population."
- In July 2017 the producers of Risk wrote an open letter saying WikiLeaks had tried to "censor the content of the film" and to add "more scenes with attorney Amal Clooney because she makes WikiLeaks look good".
