Plot summary
A car crash kills Edna Mae McCauley's husband and nearly kills her, and while she is gone her spirit leaves her body. She comes back paralyzed from the waist down with the ability to heal people, and her father takes her home to a small Kansas town to recover with family. They stop on the way at a gas station run by Esco Brown. At a party Edna heals a little girl's chronic nosebleeds without meaning to, to the bewilderment of everyone there. Grandma Pearl tells her about a woman she knew who died of pneumonia, returned to life with the same visions, and could heal. People in need of healing begin to seek Edna out.

- Writer Lewis John Carlino worked closely with star Ellen Burstyn on Resurrection, and the two visited healing centers together so he could weave her own beliefs and philosophy about healing into her character Edna.
- Stephen Geller wrote the first screenplay, then called The Resurrection, from an idea by producers Renée Missel and Howard Rosenman; Lewis John Carlino reworked it, and Geller left the project without onscreen credit.
