Plot summary
Jason Kemp, a former architect, is quadriplegic and lives in a high-tech apartment full of assistive technology. With long hours to fill, he watches the courtyard and the windows opposite his own. One night he sees the sculptor Julian Thorpe beat his wife Ilene and calls the police, who take Thorpe away, though he is back the next day. A scream wakes Jason that night, and afterward Ilene is missing from her apartment, with another woman apparently living in it. Jason tries to convince his colleague Claudia, his nurse Antonio and his friend Charlie that something happened to Ilene, but none of them takes his word for it.

- Rear Window was Christopher Reeve's first film after the 1995 Memorial Day horseback-riding fall that left him paralyzed, and scenes of his character Jason Kemp's rehabilitation drew on Reeve's own physical therapy. On set he spoke without being plugged into his ventilator for the first time.
- Rear Window gave Christopher Reeve his last leading role and one of his final screen appearances, opposite Daryl Hannah and Robert Forster, and was his first substantial part since the injury that left him tetraplegic in 1995.
