- Aniello Arena, who plays the protagonist of Reality, is a convicted former Camorra member who has served life in prison for murder since 1991. - After the acclaim of Gomorrah, Matteo Garrone wanted a change and decided to make a comedy. Drawn from a true story, Reality developed into a darker film than planned, and Garrone doubts the finished version can be called a comedy.
