Plot summary
Born in Brooklyn to a first-generation American Jewish family, Ruth Bader Ginsburg meets her husband, Martin Ginsburg, at Cornell and studies law at Harvard and Columbia, where she is one of only nine women in her class. She teaches at Rutgers and Columbia, then argues six gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court, winning five, for clients including Sharron Frontiero, who faced bias in the Air Force, and a single father refused benefits meant for single mothers. President Jimmy Carter appoints her to the federal bench, and President Bill Clinton names her to the Supreme Court, where she is seen as a consensus builder and forms a friendship with Antonin Scalia.
