Plot summary
Pat Tillman gave up his career in professional football to enlist in the Army, and his younger brother Kevin went with him. The brothers were deployed first to Iraq and then to Afghanistan, and Pat was killed there. The earliest reports said enemy fighters had shot him. A month later the military gave a different account. Pat's mother, Mary, known as Dannie, and the rest of the family asked for the records behind the death and were handed thousands of pages with passages blacked out. Working through them, the family could not reconcile what the documents said with what they had been told, and they pressed the Army and other government agencies to explain how the first version of Pat's death had been assembled and made public.
