Plot summary
In 1990, Laura James monitors deep-space transmissions at the International Institute of Space Technology, and her superior, Dr. Farraday, works out that the signals come from an alien race sending an ambassador to Earth. A video log then shows the alien starship down on Mars. The Institute sends the spaceship Oceano, carrying Laura and astronauts Anders Brockman and Paul Grant, through a solar flare to the planet. On Mars the crew finds the alien craft with one dead humanoid aboard, and Farraday concludes that a rescue shuttle may have carried other survivors away. Laura's fiancé Allan and astronaut Tony take the Meteor to Phobos, a moon of Mars, to put an observation satellite in place, and there they find a vessel holding a living, green-skinned woman who will not eat the food offered to her.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Queen of Blood (1966)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Curtis Harrington said the sets were not ready on the first day of filming because "Roger had hired a bunch of hippies as set decorators and they were stoned all the time".
- Basil Rathbone worked overtime and missed a meal, so the Screen Actors Guild demanded overtime pay plus a fine for the meal violation, until producer George Edwards produced footage showing the delay was because Rathbone had not memorized all his lines and insisted on skipping lunch.
- Harrington had to fight Roger Corman to hire Florence Marly "because she was an older woman", saying Corman had "some bimbo in mind"; he wrote that a "sexy young floozy in the part" would have made it just another run-of-the-mill sci-fi exploitation film.
- The vampire's glowing eyes were one of the most striking elements of the film, and Harrington told an interviewer they achieved the effect on set by directing pencil-thin beams of light into Florence Marly's eyes.
- Roger Corman's name does not appear on the final film; Harrington said that was because Queen of Blood was made with a non-union crew while Corman had signed a contract to work with the unions.
- Harrington wanted to make a film about a vampire in outer space, and because he was matching Russian footage from A Dream Come True, which was about a queen from another planet, he had to make his vampire female.
