Plot summary
The pulse is a highly aggressive intelligence that lives within the electrical grid of Los Angeles. It moves from one house to the next, seizing control of appliances and turning them against the occupants, killing them or driving them to wreck their own homes. Once a house is destroyed, the pulse travels along the power lines to repeat the attack. After it devastates a home in a quiet suburban neighborhood, it reaches the house of Bill Rockland, a divorced father whose son David is visiting. The pulse begins to take over the appliances there, and Bill and David find themselves facing the same force.

- David Morse and Tommy Lee Jones both auditioned to play Bill Rockland in Pulse, but both lost the part to Cliff De Young.
- Pulse finished production a day early and $1 million under its $6 million budget, which let the filmmakers afford Oxford Scientific Films to do many of the special effects.
- Paul Golding got the idea for Pulse partly after cinematographer Caleb Deschanel spent the night at his house and said he had been listening to the sounds of the house, which seemed alive and caring for him, and partly from hearing about a computer that reprogrammed itself.
