Plot summary
Dev Raman is an alienated, Americanized teenager of East Indian heritage. His mother sends him back to India for a college exchange year. He is reluctant to go, but he respects her wishes. In India he receives guidance from his friend Sanjay, but he ignores Sanjay's suggestions. His Western values clash with those of the Indian subcontinent, and the interaction between the two cultures leads to misunderstanding.
