Plot summary
Abel is a pupil at an elementary school that his younger sister Nora also attends, and the two are close. Some of the other children, led by Antoine, a taller boy who defies a teacher, target Abel. Nora cannot understand why her brother will not tell any adult, their father included, about the bullying, and he urges her to leave the problem alone. When their father insists on knowing why Abel is despondent and refuses to go to school, Nora tells him what she has seen. Abel then warns her that she must stay out of it. Her own classmates offer her no support, and she is caught between the world of the children around her and the world of the adults.
