Plot summary
In November 1940, during the Birmingham Blitz, Nazi Germany begins a plan to weaken Britain with counterfeit currency made in its concentration camps. A night raid by the Luftwaffe levels a munitions factory, killing the women who worked there. Tommy Shelby lives in isolation with his assistant Johnny Dogs, writing his autobiography and haunted by visions of his dead daughter Ruby. His sister Ada, the MP for Birmingham South, comes to tell him what the gang has done under his son Duke, now its leader. The gang strips the ruined factory of its munitions. Nazi agent John Beckett intends to move counterfeit money through the gang's networks. Kaulo Chiriklo, the twin of Tommy's former flame Zelda, calls him the Rom Baro and tells him to return home because Duke needs him.
