Plot summary

Rajeev has grown up in America, and his father Kishorilal, a businessman settled there, believes the young man knows nothing of the traditions of the country the family came from. Ganga, the daughter of his closest friend in India, seems to him the right wife for his son. Kishorilal arranges for Rajeev to visit her village with Arjun, his adopted son, and stay with her family. Arjun, also a first-generation immigrant, keeps the visit running smoothly and lets the pair get acquainted; over weeks of conversation the two agree to marry. The engagement is held in Ganga's village, and she then flies to the United States with Rajeev. There Arjun becomes the person she leans on as she settles into a new country, facing remarks about her Indian ways.
