Plot summary
Kulu is a critically endangered pangolin pup found in Johannesburg after she was trafficked in the illegal wildlife trade. Gareth Thomas, an investment manager in South Africa who has no background in rehabilitation work with wild animals, unexpectedly becomes her caretaker. He faces the difficulties of caring for a wild animal, with the goal of one day returning her to the wild. Around their story it traces the wider trade in pangolins, the mammal most illegally traded in the world, and the conservation efforts around them, and it asks viewers to think again about their relationship with nature.
