Plot summary
In Kattukuppam, Osthe Velan works as a police inspector. He lives with his mother, his half-brother Balan and his stepfather Subbaiah Pillai, whom he despises. The two brothers share a bond that swings between affection and hostility; their mother tries to bring them together, while Subbaiah Pillai sides with Balan. Balan wants to marry Nirmala, but a loan his father took to start an oil mill stands in the way; the debt can be cleared only if Balan marries a wealthy woman. Then comes Boxer Daniel, a corrupt politician set on winning a by-election across fourteen villages. When Daniel's men try to hand out money to voters, Velan confronts them and seizes the funds. During the chase that follows, he falls for Neduvalli, whose father is a drunkard.
