Plot summary
John writes horror stories, and he drives into the California desert with his girlfriend Shirley because a cemetery after dark seems like the place to find the idea for his next one. The car leaves the road and goes over a cliff. In a foggy graveyard, the Emperor of the Night sits on a marble altar and calls up the Black Ghoul, his Princess of the Night, who brings him the dancers he has demanded. He tells her the souls of the dancers are forfeit if the night's performances displease him. A werewolf and a mummy seize John and Shirley, and the Emperor orders the two of them tied up and forced to keep watching.

- The Black Ghoul, the undead consort played opposite Criswell, was allegedly written for Maila Nurmi, better known as Vampira, but the part went instead to Fawn Silver, who wore a black bouffant wig.
- Director Stephen C. Apostolof fired the dance coordinator during the shooting of the film, which is thought to have made the dancing even more awkward and wooden.
- Ed Wood persuaded director Stephen C. Apostolof to cast his friend Criswell in the film, and Criswell's lines were written on cue cards because he had difficulty reading them without his glasses.
