Plot summary

John Boswell translated works from fourteen ancient and modern languages, held a professorship at Yale by the time he was thirty, and gained entry to the Vatican's classified archives. Four award-winning books came out of that research, and his name became known in medieval history and linguistics. He was openly gay and offered no apology for it, in an era that gave him little tolerance or acceptance. The people closest to him, among them friends, students, colleagues and relatives, describe his life and his works first-hand, and they speak about the final days in which he worked urgently to finish Same Sex Unions in Medieval Europe, a book that moved the marriage equality debate, at a time when the effects of AIDS were wearing him down.
