Plot summary
A detective working undercover on a string of stolen Porsche 911s is shot dead, and Lieutenant Vincent Bracey needs someone inside the operation. He picks Benjamin "Benjy" Taylor, a 22-year-old San Diego officer whose knowledge of German cars and rookie standing make him convincing as a mechanic and unlikely to be taken for a cop. Bracey believes Ted Varrick, a millionaire playboy, runs the ring. Benjy moves to Los Angeles and takes a job at Technique Porsche, where he works under the alias "Billy Ayles". He and Ted become friends, and Benjy takes an interest in Ted's sister Ann. He also learns that a second crew, led by Frank Martin, operates in the same territory.

- While filming the final scene of No Man's Land, Charlie Sheen was knocked unconscious when a squib that had hardened overnight detonated at the wrong moment. He suffered lacerations to his face and lost hearing in one ear for four weeks.
- Brad Pitt made his second movie appearance as an extra in No Man's Land, among other uncredited 1987 roles. In the restaurant scene he tried to ad-lib a line because he wanted a Screen Actors Guild card, and the assistant director threatened to fire him if he tried again.
