Plot summary
In Tokugawa-era Japan, a young ninja called Genbu kills samurai and government officials, and his clan is blamed for the deaths. His kinsmen come after him, so he and his wife Akane cross the sea to China, partly to get away from them and partly so that Genbu can track down the last man he blames for his father's death. That man, Fukusa, now goes by the name Uncle Fu and works as a mirror maker. He keeps a young protégé, Sun Jing, a martial artist who grabs every chance to prove himself, treats few things seriously, and mocks his lecherous servant Chee. Seeing his surrogate father set upon, Jing rushes in, and the two fighters turn out to be evenly matched.
