Plot summary

Zhenia leaves Ukraine for Poland with a collapsible massage table and goes to the immigration office in Warsaw, where he says he wants to live in Poland. He holds the officer's head and sends him into a trance, and the permit is stamped and signed. He takes a place on a Warsaw housing estate and begins calling on clients in a gated community on the city's outskirts, among them Maria and Ewa. Marek Roznowski, a father with cancer, also puts his hopes in the masseur's hands. The residents have money and private sorrows, and they confide in him. His hands appear to ease what medicine has not, and he often uses hypnosis and seems able to move objects with his mind. Many of the community's lost souls want more from him than a massage.
