Plot summary

At a pet store, a suburban housewife named Leslie Shaber meets the owner, Harry Thropen, whose attention surprises her. Her husband Howard gives her little notice at home. When Harry stops someone trying to steal her purse, she invites him to lunch. He kisses her there, and her daughter Jennifer watches and thinks her mother has another man. A flambé dessert sends Harry away, and Leslie follows him to his store. He puts her in a trance, takes her to his bedroom and bites her big toe. She runs out and goes home, where her appetite begins to change.
