Biography

Marilyn McCoo is an American singer who became the lead voice of the 5th Dimension. Born in Jersey City and raised in Los Angeles, she sang with the Hi-Fi's in the early 1960s, and the 5th Dimension broke through with Up, Up and Away in 1967 and the Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In medley, which hit number one in 1969 and earned the group a Record of the Year Grammy. She and Billy Davis Jr. left the 5th Dimension in 1975 to work as a duo, and You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show) brought them a Grammy and topped the chart in 1976. The pair hosted their own CBS network series in 1977. McCoo hosted Solid Gold from 1981 to 1984 and again from 1986 to 1988, played Tamara Price on Days of Our Lives in 1986, acted in My Mom's a Werewolf (1989), and appeared in Show Boat on Broadway in 1995 and 1996.
