Plot summary
British agent Karen Bentley inherits a mission from her murdered partner: carry the flight plan for a hundred American bombers, hidden inside a scorpion medallion, to a British contact in Chicago. Arriving in New York from Europe by ship, she dodges enemy agents by hiding in a variety theater, where she charms Larry Haines, a vaudeville performer whose penguin act is booked for a Hollywood film. Karen plants the medallion on Larry before he boards a westbound train, and German agents Stephanie Runick and Hugo Streger ride the same train, watching him. Karen boards in Albany, and Larry, who did not see her in New York, finds her strange.
