Plot summary
Widowed Leslie Doyle brings her children Jonathan and Jamie to Santa Loraina, California, where she takes up work as the town mortician at the Fowler Funeral Home, a house that has long stood abandoned. The locals fear the building, and some say the ground is haunted. At the diner Jonathan meets Cal, Tina, Sara, and Liz, and hears the tale of Bobby Fowler, a disfigured boy who vanished at the age of eight. Ten years afterward, his parents were found murdered. Some in town believe Bobby is alive.
