Plot summary
Diane Kramer's son was killed in a hit-and-run. The car that struck him was mocha-colored, and the description of it that she has is incomplete. She travels from Lausanne to Evian, on Lake Geneva, because the driver lives there. In Evian she is drawn into the lives of the people who own the car, while she tries to learn who was at the wheel.
